Games - serious fun.
The idea of learning through play is at least as old as when the Czech scholar Komensky (John Comenius) wrote Schola Ludus in 1630: School by Play.
At present, digital games, simulations and virtual platforms promise to be important education tools because users can interact, engage in immersive activities. Serious games are a growing area in many sectors, including health.
However, in public health, there is still very little available in terms of serious games to support education in core public health functions. Transmissible is interested to contribute to areas of 'awareness raising', simulation exercises and training performance assessment with serious games, effectively embedded in training activities. For this reason, the aim is to set up some pilot game development groups in the coming year to develop Transmissible GamesTM that are characterised by fun, relevance and engagement.
In partnership with Jade Owl Studios, we developed a Dutch educational game for medical students, on outbreak response; Greep op Griep. The video below (in Dutch) covers the game rules and play.
